Father’s Day 2009

Father’s Day was a great low-key day for our family.  We had a great day just enjoying each other’s company! 

Robin truly is the greatest daddy in the world.  Emma has no idea how lucky she is.  Robin works from home so she gets to see him most of the day every day.  Last week Emma was out with my mom and I shopping and out of the blue she said, “I want to go home and see my daddy.”  She really starts going through withdrawals when she is away from him for more than 3 hours.  We really are very fortunate and I’m so thankful that he get to participate so much in her life.  She truly is a daddy’s girl.

Dinner with Chloe

Last weekend we had a great evening with our good friends, The Hedgecocks.  We had dinner at Oliveto’s and then treated ourselves to some yummy snow cones.

Finger Painting and Potty Training…

Two weekends ago I had scheduled on my calendar 3 intense days of potty training.  That was my FIRST mistake.  I scheduled potty training according to MY schedule.  I was off work for several days and Emma had just turned 2 and half and I decided NOW was the time for Emma to tackle this challenge of toddler-hood. 

I read several books, talked to several friends, and ultimately decided on the “ditch the diapers, wear big girl panties, stay at home and learn to go potty for 2 day” method.  The first day was rough.  The second day was more rough.  The third day Robin and I looked at each other and said, “Wanna try again in a few months?” 

Emma is such a smart girl, I know she understands the concept, but she also wants to do things on HER time table.  She did not like me telling her what to do and when to do it. 

After talking to our Pediatrician, we decided to hold off for a bit and wait until she shows more signs of readiness.  I’m confident that she’ll let us know when she’s ready. :)

I will admit that I had a great 2 days at home with Emma while we attempted potty training.  I was completely focused on her for 2 days- I wish I could do that more often!  She is so much fun.

And his name will be….

Ok, so we got a sneak peak ultrasound last week and found out that we are for sure (like 110%) having a boy.  Words cannot express how excited we are!  I would have been fine either way- I know that Emma would have loved having a little sister and we already have all of the “girl” stuff.  However, I know that mommy will really love having a little boy.  Since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of having a son, is that weird?

I also think that Robin will love having a son- he feels a lot of pressure- you know, for him to turn out ok!  However, I have no doubts that Robin will set a great example of how to be a nice Christian man.

We have decided to name his Foster, my maiden name.  We haven’t quite settled on a middle name but that will come very soon.

Yes, I’ve already ordered a personalized onesie from Pottery Barn with Foster’s name on it.  :)  I’m just a little bit excited. 

Trip to the Kiddie Park

 

 

Saturday night we took a road trip with our Connect Group to the Bartlesville Kiddie Park.  It was really neat for me to be able to go back the Kiddie Park because I practically grew up at the park when I was little.  My grandparents lived in Bartlesville for many many years and this was my favorite place to go with them when I went to stay with them for a week every summer.  It’s very funny how the park seems a lot smaller now that I’m an adult.  When I was little, I remember thinking it was like Disney World! 

It was really neat to be able to bring Emma to the Kiddie Park.  It’s the perfect place for toddlers and preschoolers.  I knew that she would be timid and a bit scared of the rides… and she was!  We tried to convince her to ride several of the rides but she was content to watch her friends!  Finally, after an hour and a half daddy asked her if she wanted to ride the swings and she said, “Yes!”    So we threw her on the swing and held our breath.  She did great!  She smiled the entire ride. 

She also agreed to ride the train with both mommy and daddy and the carousel with daddy twice.  That was the extent of her riding adventures- the swings once, the train once, and the carousel twice.  I’m positive that she’ll ride more rides next time we go- she just has to take it all in and observe once first.

Last Saturday we met my family at Marble Slab on the Riverwalk to eat ice cream and celebrate my cousin Haley’s 10th birthday!

Emma thoroughly enjoyed her “pink ice cream.”  She didn’t care what flavor she got- she just requested that it be PINK.

Kennedi’s Birthday Party

One of Emma’s sweet friends, Kennedi, turned 2 last week.  Emma was very excited to be invited to her Bounce House Birthday party!

Emma stayed in the princess bounce castle pretty much the entire party.  She LOVES to jump. 

She did come out of the bounce house for cupcakes. :)
